The Impalers

AXE Records :: The Impalers
The Impalers: Timmy, Randy, Jason, Cindy, Lars, Brent, David

The Impalers are a San Francisco-based reggae act featuring an all-star lineup of veteran musicians from bands like Skankin' Pickle, Let's Go Bowling, The Rudiments, 78 RPM's and The Inciters. The heart of The Impalers lies in the deep traditions of Jamaican music.

The Impalers take the very best of 60's and 70's reggae-the deep grooves of the The Soul Vendors, and The Harry J Allstars along with the melodic sensibilities of Phyllis Dillon, Dawn Penn and Horace Andy. Then they infuse those rhythms with the soul of Aretha Franklin and the Memphis Horns then add the funky sound of The Meters. Together these sounds create the potent mix that is The Impalers-a sound that is electrifying and undeniable. Live, the band is the ultimate soul shakedown, with deep, in-your-face grooves that attract big and diverse crowds.

Originally formed as a studio band for the Axe Records label, The Impalers started laying tracks for vocalists and instrumentalists and released a number of singles to critical acclaim, including the single "Darling I Will Stay," which featured vocalist Alana Turner from the world-renowned Northern Soul outfit, The Inciters. Axe Records helped launch the careers of The Aggrolites, another reggae powerhouse, with the release of their first LP, "Dirty Reggae" in 2003.

The increasing reputation of the band, both in the US and oversees grew with these releases, as well as the call for The Impalers to play live and become more than simply a studio group. As it turned out, this public demand dovetailed with an explosion of musical ideas from within the band - prolific songwriting and musical experimentation soon made The Impalers realize they had more to say musically and it was time to take the show on the road.

Vocalist Cindy Chi appeared and what was to be collaboration became permanent. Her vocal power was immediately recognized by the band as the final element they needed. She locked in a new lineup that includes Cindy Cook (Lead Vocals), David Wiens (Bass) Brent Willson (Guitar) Lars Nylander (Organ, Piano, Vocals) Randy Odell (Drums) Jason Boyte (Trumpet, Percussion, Vocals) and Timmy Bailey (Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Percussion, Vocals).

The Impalers have just completed their first full length CD titled "Blood, Rum & Reggae" set for release in February 2008 on Axe Records in the US and Scorcha Records in Germany.
